Research, Applications, and Policy
Roadmaps for the development of nanotechnology must take advantage of near-term potential and provide for transition to far-term goals with realistic hedges in the interim. Hype must be constrained, but future potential should not be needlessly restrained as a consequence of fear of ambitious planning and vision. Nanotechnologies will have important, if at present unclear, roles in civilian and defense sectors.
