Background
The 1st Conference on Advanced Nanotechnology: Research, Applications, and Policy is an important event for those interested in the Feynman goal for nanotechnology, including researchers, technologists, policy advisors, public interest representatives, investors, interested citizens, and those aiming at a career in the field. The Conference will provide a stimulating multi-disciplinary environment enabling broad exploration of this anticipated revolution in how matter is controlled. Abstracts will be accepted on a wide variety of topics — from technological readiness, to anticipated applications, to public policy issues.
Unlike generic "anything under 100 nm" nanotech meetings, the 1st Conference on Advanced Nanotechnology targets the bottom-up goal of atomically precise molecular machine systems, enabling those focusing on this prospect to present their work to interested colleagues, facilitating new collaborations and potentially attracting attention from new sources of funding.
History
Foresight Institute's conferences are the original venue for researchers and policymakers working in molecular nanotechnology. Foresight Institute was formed in 1986 and the 1st Foresight Conference was held in 1989. The first conference predated the National Nanotechnology Initiative by over a decade. In 2004, Foresight is launching a new meeting series on Advanced Nanotechnology: Research, Applications, and Policy. Attendee demographics are expected to roughly track those given below for the research conference series, but with additional representation from policy organizations, think tanks, government agencies (U.S. and other), and non-profits (NGOs).
