Shock and Pressure Wave Propagation in Nano-fluidic Systems

In this paper, it is demonstrated that classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is not a suitable tool for studying directional and coherent transmission of mechanical energy at the nanometer size scale in fluid systems. Essentially, classical dynamics is too chaotic for the meaningful study of coherence properties, although it is well established to be suitable for studying phenomena in fluids which are controlled by incoherent energy transfer and random thermal motion such as viscosity and diffusion coefficient.
