During 1998 a first challenge grant partially supported writing the first volume of Nanomedicine. Foresight is now sponsoring a second Challenge Grant to support the completion of Volumes II and III of Nanomedicine.
Thanks to all those who participated in the Second Nanomedicine Challenge Grant effort. The full amount of the Challenge was earned.
The first volume of Nanomedicine, by IMM Research Fellow Robert A. Freitas Jr., will be published by Landes Bioscience, a leading publisher of medical textbooks, in October 1999.
Pre-order Nanomedicine, Volume 1: Basic Capabilities from Amazon.com
Nanomedicine, to be published in three volumes, will be the first book to comprehensively address the technical issues involved in the medical applications of molecular nanotechnology and medical nanodevice design. The book outline and a sample chapter can be previewed on the Foresight Web site (http://www.foresight.org/Nanomedicine/).
The writing of Nanomedicine has been partially funded through support from Foresight. A very successful fundraising drive in 1998 raised over $15,000 to support work on this project.
We're extremely pleased with the tremendous quantity and quality of the research that has already been done. Completion of Nanomedicine, Volume I: Basic Capabilities represents a major accomplishment in itself. But it is only the first step.
Continuing support is urgently needed for the completion of Volumes II and III of Nanomedicine. To ensure that work on this major project does not stop, we need to raise additional funding now. For this purpose, Foresight is sponsoring a new challenge grant. Two donors have pledged to match all contributions, dollar for dollar, up to maximum of $10,000. This gives us an excellent opportunity to raise up to $20,000. Matching donations must be received by 31 December 1999.
Questions about medical applications of nanotechnology are among the most frequent questions directed to Foresight. If the application of nanotechnology to medicine is important to you, please consider making a matching contribution to this new Grant program, to support the completion of Nanomedicine.
