• Foresight announces $40,000 Challenge Grant. Matching donations are needed by 31 January, 1999, for a dollar-for-dollar $40,000 challenge grant to Foresight.

November 1998

• The winner of the 1998 Foresight Institute Distinguished Student Award was announced at the Conference.
• The winners of the 1998 Feynman Prizes were announced at the Conference.
• A press release is now available on highlights of the Sixth Foresight Conference on Molecular Nanotechnology.
• Many of the full papers submitted to the Sixth Foresight Conference on Molecular Nanotechnology are now available.

• The section "Nanotechnology Headlines" has been updated with stories of two recent research advances: "Molecular propeller rotates in supramolecular bearing" and "Demonstration of covalently functionalized nanotubes as tips for AFM's".
• It is now possible to use your VISA or MasterCard in online transactions on our secure server to make a Foresight Regular Membership donation, become a Foresight Senior Associate, or register for the Sixth Foresight Conference on Molecular Nanotechnology. The online forms:

• The Web page for the Sixth Foresight Conference on Molecular Nanotechnology has been updated, including new information on registration and accommodations, the Tutorial on Enabling Technologies, and information about corporate sponsorship opportunities.
• Jeff Soreff's "Recent Progress: Steps Toward Nanotechnology" column has been added to Update 33; however it is located on the IMM Web site. It may be accessed either by going directly to IMM Report Number 2, or through the Update 33 Table of Contents. To include all "Recent Progress" columns in a search for specific technical topics, please use both the Foresight search page and the IMM search page.

• Foresight Update 33 the current issue, is now available.
• Rod Ruoff's nanotube research group has positions available for graduate and postdoctoral students.
• Foresight uses CritSuite to begin a Web discussion on how new technologies in surveillance and encryption will affect longstanding standards of privacy and openness. More.
• The Web page of the Sixth Foresight Conference on Molecular Nanotechnology has been updated.
• Nanomedicine Challenge Grant extended until June 30.

• A special forum sponsored by the National Science Foundation will be held in conjunction with the Sixth Foresight Conference on Molecular Nanotechnology
• "Foresight Briefing 2: Nanotechnology and Enabling Technologies" is now available on the Web.
• The archive page for the 1997 Fifth Foresight Conference on Molecular Nanotechnology has been updated to point to a Web site where video of two talks is available.
• Director of the National Science Foundation tells Congress nanotechnology the "area of science and engineering that will most likely produce the breakthroughs of tomorrow"
• "Upcoming Events" calendar has been updated.
• Foresight Update 32 the current issue, is now available.
• New section on nanomedicine, features a preview of Nanomedicine, a three-volume work that will comprehensively address the technical issues involved in the medical applications of molecular nanotechnology and medical nanodevice design.

March 1998

• Several chapters of Nanosystems are now available on the Web to help in previewing the book before placing an order.
• Registration information is now available for the 1998 Sixth Foresight Conference on Molecular Nanotechnology.
