The First Five Years of the National Nanotechnology Initiative
The National Nanotechnology Initiative was formally launched at the federal level in 2001. Since then, federal nanotechnology related expenditures have nearly tripled as multiple agencies from the NSF to Defense, Health and Human Services and Energy have launched programs. Today's $1B expenditure at the Federal level and $400M in State spending are spread across thousands of projects in multiple industries. A review of the program will be the topic of this IEEE Nanotechnology Council meeting.
