		<description>Given the liberal withdrawal from education reform, the space program, and big science in general, the tone of the article on American Heritage is odd.   New Gingrich may be one of the few high profile  politicians who  takes science eduation, and scientific progress and applications seriously.   More to the point -- conservatives are forward looking.   Liberals -- and this especially true here in southeastern Michigan -- live in the past.   I keep hoping to see that the scientific community will distance itself from the increasingly reactionary academic community as a whole.    Science, unfortuately, continues to be politicized.
