I'm not talking about nanotech - I'm talking about the end of New Jersey as a hotbed for R&D, and the emergence of places like Texas. Recently, another Jersey milestone was passed, when <a href="http://www.nj.com/business/index.ssf/2008/09/bell_labs_is_pulling_the_plug.html" rel="nofollow">Bell Labs shut down</a>. 'The Sopranos' isn't fiction - Jersey really is hopelessly corrupt. The state is losing population, virtually bankrupt, and any business that can escape has by now done so. It’s interesting to see where the future of fundamental research lies.
