&lt;p&gt;I think von Ehr is subtly expressing disappointment concerning the relative success of Zyvex in furthering the progress of nanotechnology research. Perhaps he realized that a research center in academia can usually get more done than a private company in terms of basic research and discovery. Universities are usually better for science, while private companies excell in applying scientific discovery to engineer real-world products. This is a predictable but still smart move by von Ehr.&lt;/p&gt;
