the dangers of,,,,?

the biggest danger that mankind has is not only his /her use? of inteligence, but also his/her use of such a vast imagination . that it makes one think, which is really the biggest,? mans imagination...., or the universe that he/she creates from that intelligence & imagenation. the only way that I can fhilocefeis this would be to say," do gods lay in the cradle of man, or does man lay in the cradle of gods"

Openness, Security and Nano

I do agree with Foresight's advocacy of openness in nanotechnology research.

However at some point the market is going to become a major player in this research. Are all private companies going to agree to open their proprietary nanotech blueprints to the world in the name of safety?

Or is it going to be just like the software/computer industry--open source (FreeBSD, Linux, perl, TCP/IP, etc.) in parts and proprietary (Microsoft, Sun, Apple, etc.) in others?

And if it turns out to be a hybrid of the two, isn't there the possibility of a monopoly arising, a "Microsoft/Ma Bell of nano" if you will, that creates a large monoculture of technology that is prone to worms, trojans and viruses?
