Mapping location of nanotechnology companies
Bmelki writes "Nanovip.com has established comparative statistics from the number of nanotechnology companies that we have in our database. The companies were sorted by country and American state, then put into graphics. At this stage, America is the leading country by far; California being the leading state with the most nanotechnology involved companies."

More accurate to think in terms of per capita
If you take all the bars for the European countries (Including Russia) it adds to nearly half that of the United States, this diminishes the lead somewhat. Still, per capita, the US leads the way by far. This if even more apparent when comparing to Asia and Pacific Rim, thanks to the skewing of China and India.
And since California is such a large and populus state, it might be more accurate to add all the bars of western and eastern coastal states into two totals to see that the coasts are nearly balanced in terms of nano companies per capita. This way you find that nano startups tend to cluster around populus and heavily urbanized states.
Still, as a Seattlite, I rather proud that Washington ranks as number seven on that list!

Re:stats on nanotechnology companies
So this breaks government spending per capita, which is not the same thing as companies per capita. Still it is very illuminating. Asian governments are spending more, per capita, than North America or the EU. I'd still like to see the number of companies or private investment per capita.
Would be interesting to see a per capita breakdown of spending or private investment per state in the US.
