East coast Foresight?

from the spreading-geographically dept.
Anonymous Thinker writes "I would like to ask if foresight is planning on having events on the east coast? If not I would like propose starting a local chapter here in Atlanta. The Georgia Institute of Technology has an excellent research center for Nanotechnology and I think that it would be an ideal place to begin spreading and discussing the benifits of nanotechnology on the east coast. thanks, G-Man" CP: The current plan is to alternate U.S. coasts for the Foresight Conferences on Molecular Nanotechnology (East in 2000, West in 2001, etc.). Regarding local chapters, we suggest setting up Nanotechnology Study Groups at universities. Georgia Tech would indeed be a good place to have one of these.

I'd be interested in attending such events. My own institution, the University of Tennessee, might be willing to cosponsor something here, too, perhaps in conjunction with Oak Ridge National Lab.

I'd be equally interested in an East Coast Chapter, at least as a member or organizer. I'm currently finishing my Junior year of high school in New Jersey, but I've been accepted to The Clarkson School next year at Clarkson University, where I plan to begin intensive studies in whatever nanotechnology related classes I can take. Medical Nanotech specifically interests me… but I've exhausted my high school and look forward to getting out into a larger realm of research and information. An East Coast chapter would be ideal, or perhaps even North East as Clarkson is in very northern New York. In any case, if anyone has any suggestions to what can be done, or what classes I should take, or even what might be the best nanotechnology programs in the nation to transfer into after my year at Clarkson, I'd be very interested in hearing them!

Excellent, soon to be Clarkson student, I attended Clarkson for a couple of years back in '84. Best of Luck! G-Man

If there were any Foresight/nanotech-related activities here in the East, I would definitely try to attend. Places I would suggest (that are close to me, of course) are UPenn and Penn State. Having something at Cornell might be interesting too.
