Britian Plans Legislation To Ban Human Cloning
from the The-happening-world dept.
VAB writes "A BBC Article reports Britain is to ban reproductive human cloning as part of a strategy to assure the public that genetic technology will be harnessed for beneficial use only.
Health Secretary Alan Milburn announced on Thursday [19 April 2001] that the government is bringing forward legislation to outlaw human cloning within months. Mr Milburn said that the only way to ensure human cloning never takes place is to ban reproductive human cloning by law.
The health secretary stressed that while Britain should aim to become a world leader in the genetic revolution in healthcare, no progress can be made unless strict boundaries are set to reassure the public about genetic technology."

Cloning as an irrational priority.
From the looks of them, the Brits would do better to invest resources into improving their dental hygiene and dentistry over trying to clone humans. If Bridget Jones were a real Brit, she probably wouldn't have the sort of smile displayed by Renee Zellweger!

So Much For Discussuions
When O When will we the people be allowed to share our views on these things before some overreligious nonsensical politiction dictate his viewpoint with force onto us without asking for clarification of the moral and philosophical impact it would (or wouldn't) have.

I don’t understand how as aworld we can overcome all of our hardships if we keep preventing the development of the verry technologies we need. I mean what is the big fear. So what if we clone a human. I mean my body my choice right?
